Meditation has been a key part of the wellness movement in recent years, but if you’ve been hesitant to jump on the bandwagon this new research might give you that extra push.

A study published in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy looked at the link between meditation and sexual function in women.

To find the link they asked 450 women aged between 17 and 70 about their experience of meditation, sexual desire, awareness of their own body sensations, their health and mood.

Of the 450 women, 193 of them meditated regularly and the study found these women had higher scores for sexual function and desire, regardless of how long they had been meditating for and how often they did it.

Study co-author Lori A. Brotto, a professor at the University of British Columbia told PsyPost, “In particular, our findings show that women with meditation experience have higher scores related to arousal, lubrication, orgasm and desire than women with no meditation experience.”

It was also observed that the women who meditated had more ‘mindful personalities’ which contributed to their ‘improved sexual function and sexual desire’. Which means, ultimately, it is the mood-enhancing benefits of meditation that led to better sex.
