Ethnically diverse women’s experiences of sexual pleasure: a qualitative study
The study is now closed for recruitment.
Research Purpose:
The key goal of this research study is to explore what sexual pleasure means for ethnically diverse women and if there are associations with mindfulness. Sexual pleasure is an essential aspect of sexual health and well-being. The experience of sexual pleasure has been found to be gendered due to the inequity between men and women in the sociocultural aspect. Besides the gender ideologies, how ethnically diverse women define and experience sexual pleasure should be investigated because the experiences of these women have been reduced to stereotypes, risky sexual behaviors, and STIs. This study has the potential to substantially contribute to the discourse on ethnically diverse women’s sexuality from a sex-positive pleasure-seeking framework (Chmielewski et al., 2020)
Research procedure: If you decide to take part in this research study, then you will be asked to complete an online questionnaire that includes socio-demographic information. Once you have completed the socio-demographic questions, you will be asked whether you would like to answer the open-ended questions regarding sexual pleasure on the questionnaire or participate in an online interview where the same open-ended questions will be asked. The difference between these two options is that the interviews will allow the researchers to ask follow-up questions, confirm your answers or clarify any questions during the one on one interview meetings. The questionnaire will take you approximately 10 minutes to complete if you choose to participate in a one-hour online interview or it will take you approximately 20 minutes to complete if you choose to answer the open-ended questions on the questionnaire.
