Sexual Difficulties and Genito-Pelvic Pain among Indigenous Women and Two-Spirit Persons

Research Purpose:

Research on how sexual difficulties affect Indigenous women and Two-Spirit persons remains limited, and these issues are often overlooked or dismissed by healthcare providers. This study seeks to fill that gap by identifying research priority areas that are most important to Indigenous women and Two-Spirit individuals experiencing sexual difficulties. The goal is to ensure accurate information is available to patients and healthcare providers, ultimately improving care and resources for these communities.

Research procedure: 

If you choose to participate in this research study, you will:

  1. Complete a short sign-up form.
  2. Be contacted by a member of the research team to schedule a brief 5–7 minute Zoom video call to confirm your eligibility and answer any questions you may have about the study.
  3. If eligible, you will receive a link to an online questionnaire, which includes socio-demographic questions and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
  4. After completing the questionnaire, you will be asked to provide the details needed to send your honorarium cheque.

Who can participate?

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • You identify as an Indigenous Woman or a Two-Spirit person
  • Have experienced sexual difficulties (currently or in the past), including:
  • Desire difficulties: Lack of interest in sexual activity.
  • Arousal difficulties: Trouble becoming sexually excited or turned on.
  • Orgasmic difficulties: Difficulty reaching orgasm.
  • Have experienced pain during sexual activity (currently or in the past), including pain in the private parts or lower belly during or attempted sexual activity.
  • Are able to read and write in English.
  • Have internet access and some comfort using a computer.

When does this study take place?

Recruitment is currently ongoing and will close in August 2025
