Efficacy of Virtual-Reality Exposure Therapy for Sexual Aversion Disorder: A Multisite Randomized Controlled Trial

About the study:
New technologies are transforming the field of sexual health. Virtual reality is emerging as a promising tool to more effectively treat sexual difficulties, including sexual aversion (i.e., fear, disgust, and avoidance of sexual situations).
This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of virtual reality exposure therapy for the treatment of sexual aversion.
Participation may provide personal therapeutic benefit and contribute to improving the quality, effectiveness, and accessibility of treatment for individuals with sexual aversion in Canada.
This study is for you if you…
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Experience sexual fear or disgust
This study is open to people of all genders and sexual orientations
What is involved?
- Completion of 7 short online questionnaires
- One (35 minute) psychoeducation session online, via zoom
- One (3 hour) In-person session at the UBC Sexual Health Laboratory at Vancouver General Hospital
- This study will take approximately 6 months to complete.
